Inaugural Female Football Forum - a big hit in the lead up to International Womens Day (8 March) and Female Football Week (6-15 May).

The 2022 Female Football Forum held on Tuesday 7th February, is part of a long list of activities leading up to International Womens Day (8 March) and Female Football Week (6-15 May).

NWSF along with our 34 member clubs have been working hard recently, as part of the 2023WWC & Beyond Working Party, to support female football in the lead up to the Women’s World Cup. There's less than 18 months until 20 July 2023, when the 32-team tournament kicks off in
Australia and New Zealand.

One of NWSF's top focuses is to ensure females enjoy the game at all levels - player, coach, volunteer, referee. The forum, which saw more than 80% of our clubs represented, gave an opportunity for our community to share ideas and strategies for change and growth.

"This event brought together local champions of change, and we're excited that our local football community will benefit from the outcomes discussed from this progressive and creative group" reflected Jodie Camden, NWSF Board.

"The excitement is growing from our grassroots club players to our elite teams about the FIFA Women’s World Cup next year, and the boost that this will give to female football everywhere” stated
Denise Robinson, NWSF's Women's Football Manager.

This year's International Womens Day theme is #BreakTheBias. With less than a month until March 8, NWSF will focus on showcasing a gender equal football family across our marketing and communications.

Both International Womens Day and Female Football week aim to create:
  • A sport free of bias, stereotypes, and discrimination.
  • A game that is diverse, equitable, and inclusive.
  • A community where difference is valued and celebrated.

In 2022 Female Football Week will be celebrated from May 6-15 across NSW.

Here are some initiatives you and your club can run in 2022!
  • Skills Session: Hold a free skills session for girls aged 9 - 12 during Female Football Week. The skills session to run in line with Football Australia’s National Curriculum Skill Acquisition Phase (SAP) and focus on developing fundamental football skills and improve the player’s overall confidence
  • Club BBQ: A club BBQ that celebrates females within the club. Important to include all players, coaches, administrators, referees and supporters.
  • 'Come & Try' Training Session: Host a fun training session to introduce existing and new female players to the club. Training session could include an introduction to skills and to play fun small-sided games, bring a friend and receive information on how to register. Ideal for all age groups.
  • Open Training Session: Clubs can host an open training session with senior or first grade teams. Invite your younger players to this session to either watch or train alongside the senior players in your club.
  • Club Interviews: Clubs to interview female players, committee members, coaches or referees and share articles, videos and photos through social media and web pages. Interviews/good news stories can be submitted here or sent to marketing@nwsf.com.au , to be shared on their social media and web pages. Clubs that register their FFW activity will receive customisable promotional FFW material to use.
  • MiniRoos Gala Day: MiniRoos Gala Days brings young players together to participate in football matches on smaller fields in a round robin format. The Gala Day can be for registered club teams and children interested in giving football a go. Gala Days will provide girls – who may or may not have played before – the opportunity to experience football in a fun environment. The focus is entirely on enjoyment and participation as there will be no winners or scores recorded, with the only awards for participation or the fair play initiative.
  • Game Day Mascots: Game Day mascots can be MiniRoos players, walking out with All-Age or Senior Women's teams.
