FFW2022 Coach Spotlight: Susy Selvarajan breaking down barriers and supporting future Socceroo's and Matilda's

Susy Selvarajan is leading the way in North West Sydney Football as a coach, player and volunteer. 

Susy is a featured member of the NWSF Womens World Cup 2023 & Beyond Working Party. Both for her all round passion and commitment to football, but also to growing female participation- in particular coaches!

She is currently the Female Coaching Coordinator at Normanhurst Eagles Football Club. Her role is to recruit, support and develop female coaches in the club. Susy has also coached the Under 10 and Under 11 Boys Division 2 teams at Normo for last 2 seasons. Plus, she's played in the Women’s Over 35 for the last 7 years.   SUPER STAR!

Susy is working with Tim Thorne (NWSF Head Of Football) and Alison Lloyd (also a WWC WP member) to lead North West Sydney Football's new 'Female Coaching Coordinator' Program.

Susy is out on the park coaching our Future Matilda's and Socceroo's, for the last 2 season she's coached her sons team. On the football field Susy is constantly challenging perceptions as she recalls "often I turn up to a ground in my Normo club coaching gear to coach my Boys U11's team, and the opposition parents & coaches will ask where our teams coach is... [expecting to find a male]"

Coaches like Susy provide inspiration to other mums/aunties/sisters/daughters by showing that sometimes just turning up is enough to change stereotypes...

Unfortunately this is still the sad reality many local female coaches face. Susy encourages every club to support their Women & Girls to give coaching a go, so that this experience occurs left often, and our club male to female coaching ratios are ever increasing.  

The 'Female Coaching Coordinator' Program sets the target to increase the female coaches in all our clubs by:

• 10% in 2022/2023
• 20% in 2023/2024
